Golf Instruction and Tips

How do you decide which golf instruction tips to listen to? There are good golf instruction tips and of course there are bad tips.

That question can be difficult to answer because each player requires unique golf instructions to suit, not only their ability but also their style and technique of swing.

When I play with friends they often ask me for a golf instruction tip or advise on various parts of their game. I am quite happy and enthusiastic about helping them, however it is much easier to offer advise when I play with them, as I can watch the way they approach each shot.

I believe that you should only give a player a golfing tip if you are sure that it will fit in with the rest of their swing. I have seen far too many players lose their swings, usually because they are now focusing on that new tip that they were given while playing a round of golf, and trying to adopt that golf tip which simply does not fit in with everything else that goes on when they swing the club.

Now, I know, there are specific golf instruction tips which are universally sound, and accepted like, “keep your eyes down and head up.” But as there are plenty of other tips and instructions that can prove to be detrimental to a player, even when given with the best of intentions.

In particular, I remember a fairly good player with whom I’d played many rounds with who always played with a draw, lucky fellow, usually with good control. One day when his draw became more of a hook, his partner suggested a golf tip to him. “You know, if you were to keep your right elbow well tucked in on the downswing you would lose that nasty hook.”

The suggestion was well meant. However, for a player who had a well grooved habit of swinging slightly over the top of the ball, it proved to be one golf tip too much. He became so conscious of his right elbow that it threw the whole of the rest of his swing out of shape and it took him months to get it back again.

The point of this is that the tip didn’t fit in with the rest of his swing.

This is a mistake that many golfers make. They listen to every golf instruction tip out there and try to adopt them all in their desperate search for a good swing.
It is my belief that your aim should be to develop a golfswing that will enable you to set up and hit straight and long golf shots by modelling your swing on one set of advice, from one source.
Then, with constant, competent practice you will develop a mind map, a vision, of that swing so that you can reproduce it whenever you play a shot.
Remember, golf is 90% mental as they say.

Pursuing that quick fix for your game will only frustrate you and ultimately destroy your natural swing. I am not saying you shouldn’t always be trying to improve things, of course you should. Just be a little more selective about the golf instructions and tips you try to adopt, be patient, implement them one at a time and practice.

Here at GolfInstructionTips.net we endevour to provide the average golfer with the most relevant and game changing tips and advise, that are universally viewed as critical to the beginner or intermediate golfer in developing and improving their own natural swing, one’s that will enable them to make the most of their own ability, the swing you were born with.
